Yes, 90 day trial only. I missed that small detail when I ordered mine; until it arrived, that is.

I like both clamwin and clamav (the later of which I actually use). Do note that clamwin does not have real time scanning. You will have to manually initiate scans.

AVG and Avast and other scanners do have real time scanning & also cost $0. Unfortunately not open source, though.

If you plan to get an anti virus, do not get Norton
Norton = Resource hog, slow
Trend Micro = Better. I use it myself (Pretty fast, also has some "network" intrusion option on the 2005 version)

Yup, me too. I can also get it much cheaper than NAV. No need to stick to NAV.

AVG is no longer free....they began charging a few weeks ago...a real disappointment as I was recommending it to everyone.

AVG is still available in a free package. They say it's less capable than the paid/professional version of AVG.

Free version has a different web link:

Yeah I ditched Norton for Nod32. A lot of programs will do better then Norton and usually will cost less. However, AVG and Avast do not detect any better then Norton. Their just recomended for those that are not willing to spend a dime or simply can't afford an antivirus. It's better protection then none. If at all possible though, you really want to get the best protection possible.

Best bang for your buck software is System Suite 6. It uses Trend-Micro's anti-virus engine and Sygate's firewall engine. It costs the same as the basic stand alone version of Norton AntiVirus but rivals Norton System Works in features; System Suite cost $49.99. If you just need a antivirus however, I strongly recomend Eset's Nod32. It had the worlds best protection, the best track history, and cost $39.00 vs Trend-Micro's PC-Cillian, Norton AV, and System Suite 6 which all which cost $49.95 (plus or minus a nickel). Panda and Kapaskery are also two other great AV programs, but none of them offer much of an advantage over Trend-Micro or Nod32.

Summery:
Eset's Nod32 = Best Protection ($39.00)
Vcom's System Suite 6 = Best Overall Value ($59.99 online; $49.99 @ OfficeDepot)
