It doesn't really matter whether you use wireless or lan. I find convenient to use access connections to switch between four profiles I need to use from time to time. This includes two wireless connections, one fixed for my home use and second for dhcp in public/other spots. Convenient. Recommended.

What problems are you having exactly? I use AC in both my thinkpads (T22, T23) and both work flawlessly. On startup it detects whichever connection is active (LAN or wireless) and connects. It occasionally gets confused when wifi signal is weak and refuses to reconnect but thats rare.

I use Access Connections and I think its terrific. I have profiloes configured for my wireless at home (802.11A/B), wireless at work (802.11A/B), wired Ethernet at work, 802.11B public (T-Mobile and several others), and several dialup connections, including a GSM PCMCIA connection and all of them work flawlessly. When I power up at work it finds my preferred wireless. If I plug into my docking station it automatically switches to the wired Ethernet.

I use Access Connection because I have to use a proxy to connect to outside world at work, so the profiles come in handy.

The only major issue is that connecting to my AP at home on the a-band with WPA is unpredictable. So I just have been using a regular WAP with 128-bit key. Works well.

WinXP SP2 is supposed to have a connection manager builtin.
So maybe I will switch when it comes out.

The IBM Access Connections and Presentation Director (for managing video profiles) programs have genuinely enhanced my quality of life. I was suprised to recieve such excellent software with my T40.

Access Connections is for me one (of many) reasons to buy a Thinkpad. Beside IBM Client Security IBM's best peace of software.
