"ThinkPad Software Installer" Who used it, does it

#1 Post by devilsrejection » Sun Jul 11, 2004 2:41 am

I am going to be getting a new lappy soon, an x40, and I want to know whats the fastest way to reinstall all the drivers, which I will be downloading off the net.

Software Installer works excellently. I use it all the time if there is more than one driver update, and I'm too lazy to run the updates individually. It basically scans the DRIVER and IBMTOOLS folders and compares the new updates' version numbers to the old ones, and gives you a list of drivers that can be updated.

I only used it once when I had my R32. Since then, i tend to download the package(s) as well as all documentation. This has actually served me well as I just sold that machine and was able to give the fellow who bought it a CD with all the updates i've ever applied.

My X40 arrived last week and planned to spend this morning (Monday) getting the updates sorted.
