Typing unicode characters on T41
Hello,
I'm having trouble getting unicode characters (like those found in the French and Spanish languages) to display in Word 2003 on my T41. For those not familiar with what I'm refering to, it's those special charaters you get when you hold down ALT while typing the 4 digit code. It works fine on my desktop, but the T41 just beeps.
Typing in the code is SO much faster than having to go to the Character Map under the system tools folder. I'm hoping somebody got this all figured out.
thank you

Just a guess here - but it may be that the IBM Keyboard Customizer utility is being used to "map" the ALT key you are trying to use to something else (for instance a "Windows Key"). AFAIR the Keyboard Customizer can be enabled by default in some systems - so it could be that.
Give it a try and let us know how you get on.

To use that shortcut you need to enter the numbers on the numeric keypad, not on the normal number row at the top of the keyboard. It works on the standard keyboard if you press numlock.
If you have only a small set of extra characters that you need (and I assume so, because otherwise you would not have learned their codes by heart), you can as an alternative create your own keyboard layout with these characters. Have a look at http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/tools/msklc.mspx

You could also add the spanish or whatever language you like input device and switch it via one click on the taskbar whenever you need it.
You have to choose "regional and language settings" in the system configuration and then add a keyboard und der the language properties.
Best regards,
Jens
