Re: How to boost your Doom3 performance by 40% on ATI hardwa
By the way guys, ATI has released Catalyst 4.8, claiming "Doom3 improves considerably more (as much as 12% on some product configurations)." So I guess the avarage improvement will be about 7%. Has anyone tried it with Patje's mobility modder?

G-Man, I have the ATI Catalyst 4.8 drivers installed. But I had the 4.9beta's installed before that.
Normal gameplay would cause a crash within one minute using the IBM drivers, so I never ran the timedemo with them.
With the 4.9beta's I had this:
Doom 3 timedemo (1024x768 Med qual): 18.1 fps
Doom 3 timedemo (800x600 Med qual): 28.5 fps
3DMark01: 9758
3DMark03: 2500
With the new 4.8 I get nearly identical results:
Doom 3 timedemo (1024x768 Med qual): 18.2 fps
Doom 3 timedemo (800x600 Med qual): 28.4 fps
3DMark01: 9770
3DMark03: 2506
... I have the 64MB Radeon 9600, 1GB RAM, 1.7GHz and 7200rpm hdd

I havent actually played the game much. I'm not much of a gamer.
(I just want to see doomhell, but that cheat doesnt actually work
)
But, I like 1024x768 @ 18 fps better than 800x600. 18fps, so far, has been very playable.
I have taken the mod out. I tested it before, and I was getting between 17.8 - 18.1 fps with the mod in and 18.0-18.4 with the original file. It doesnt seem to affect the timedemo much.

Well, all the gamers say how great it looks. So it must.
I am a tech guy. I'm more interested in the code than the gameplay itself - though it does look fantastic to me.
Doom 3 is $45 at Target (you in the US?), so it's not like it will break the bank. I bought it so I can play some deathmatch with friends online or on my LAN (though I haven't done this yet).
The only other game I've played is Crimson Skies - and, again, I would just dog fight online/LAN.
I thought Crimson Skies looked great, so what do I know!
