Virus programs?

#1 Post by mrbjr » Fri May 28, 2004 3:16 pm

I am running Norton 2004 on 2 IBM T4*p's with no problems. Have 2 desktops running Computers Associates EZArmor, 1 running Avast free version and 3 running AVG free Edition. All seem up to the task of protecting my systems. Did have an issue when I tried to run EZArmor on my T41, it created a BSOD whenever I tried to remove the USB floopy drive. What are others experiences with these products?

I use and recommend AVG. It works well for me and my customers like it because it is free.

i second that on AVG -- i've been using it now for 3 years and have had nothing but great results.   even on systems with norton installed, AVG has found viruses.

I agree with using AVG from Grisoft.

Back when I was still using Win98SE on my desktop, I *swore* by NAV. It was rock-solid, protected my system like a starving rottweiler with a steak in it's jaws, and *crushed* everything else in the AV field.
Then I Nuke & Paved my system to install XP...
NAV started crashing on me, and LiveUpdate started claiming that there WERE NO products associated it could update, despite the entire Norton SystemWorks Suite being installed...

This happened CONSTANTLY, and the process for fixing it was as convoluted and migraine-inducing as the issue itself.

At LEAST once a month, I was having to go through the hoops, jump the hurdles, and pound my head into the wall while fixing the fact that NAV was not only NOT potecting my system, but letting ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING in as if it were issuing written invitations! GRRRRR!

I finally got so S&FTired of dealing with Norton, that I switched to AVG.

OMG, the difference was like being blind all one's life, and then waking up one morning to realize you can see!
I liked the free version so much I now PAY for it, and recommend it to ALL my friends, family, and the customers I service computers for.

In the four years now I've been using AVG, it has YET to crash on me, the updates are there when the system auto-checks for them, and it's stopped hundreds of virii from infesting my systems (so say the log files)...

I can't recommend this one strong enough...

And again, NO I don't work for Grisoft, I'm just a VERY satisfied customer. <8-)P hehehe

another vote for avg. very easy to configure and setup. unlike others i've tried, it also is not a memory hog.
