Vista on an X6 series. Can all the models cope.

Can all the x6 series models cope well with Vista. The basic X60 single core 1.6 can be bought cheaply nowadays. With 2gig of ram would this cope, or should you be looking at the dual core models.

Vista is rather memory-hungry than cpu-hungry, so I don´t see why a single core cpu at 1.6 GHz would not handle this OS. Of course, it wouldn´t be as fast as a dual core, but unless you are the multitasker or *mutlithreader* type, this shouldn´t present a problem at all. You could actually try to max out the memory, Vista kind of likes that and with a decent HD this should reduce the cpu load a little bit more. Under the given circumstances I have to ask: how about considering Windows 7 ?

Agree with Marin on both counts. Yeah, it should run Vista just fine, given enough RAM and a few tweaks on Vista to reduce its footprint.

But in the current situation, there is little reason to use Vista, when Win7 does just the same, and has a few more new features, and some performance optimizations built-in (most of which you can get from Vista as well by some tweaking, but what's the point?) Vista doesn't offer anything better than Win7.

If you were already running Vista, I would say the opposite thing - there is almost no reason to upgrade a properly configured Vista SP2 to Win7. But when choosing a new OS - a different ballgame.

I run Windows 7 on my X60s with 2GB RAM. Highly recommended....it's fast.

Vista is on my Samsung and i'd like the same O/S on both main laptops. Having said that i did read someone successfully installed Windows 7 on a 600x.

I'd also say i'm getting used to Vista. I really dont want to learn another new O/S.

So max out the ram and a single core X60 should be fine. Thanks.

If you're used to Vista you won't have any trouble at all adapting to Windows 7.

2gigs of RAM and you'll have no problem.

To answer my question i bought an X61 2.0 dual core with 2 gig of RAM. Works like a dream. Very snappy.

The X60 has a dual core 32 bit processor, and will run Vista x86 and Windows 7 x86 without any problems.

I have Vista Ultimate x86 running fine on a T60 with 3GB of memory.
