If you have an OEM CD of the same version, probably Windows XP Professional, then the Windows XP product key from the sticker should work. IIRC, you will need to activate it though. Note that you need the Windows Product key, not the serial number from your laptop.

The only other way is with the Product Recovery Disk set from IBM/Lenovo. This will not require activation and will install all the original software that came with your X41.

Product Recovery Disk set...
Is it on Lenovo's server for download?

I have a T30 with an XP Pro license but don't have the XP disk from IBM. Someone wrote any OEM version of XP Pro could be made (somehow?) to match this license. What should I look for?

Best regards,

Take a look at the Windows Licensing sticky thread near the top of this forum.

This is correct. Look for OEM version, not retail, not volume license, not educational, etc. It's only with an OEM install disk that you can use the license key on the sticker.
Collection = T500 - R400 - X300 - X200 - T61 (14" WXGA+) - T61 (14.1" SXGA+) - T60 (15" SXGA+) - X40 - T43p - T43 - T42p - A30P - 600E

If you have a I386 folder on the C:\ drive of either computer, that contains all the windows xp setup files. You can burn your own disk. I used it for my t41 to do clean installs on it. If you have the origional factory preload, use a program to find the factory key, which does not require activation on a IBM laptop. If you need more directions to make the disk, post back.

XP recovery German?

#7 Post by singbad » Fri Dec 25, 2009 9:55 am

Thanks for the hints. I bought a German T30 without HDD or disks but with a German license sticker. So I have neither the i386 folder nor the preload. I installed a "borrowed" XP Pro volume edition to see if everything works but I want to get a legal XP on it.

Does anybody happen to have a German recovery disk or the German i386 folder?

Merry Christmas!
