"IBM Java"

#1 Post by keithsketchley » Tue Apr 13, 2010 2:50 pm

I'm trying to update "java" to use a government web site.

I appear to have Java(TM) Plug-in: Version 1.4.2, Using JRE version 1.4.2 Classic VM on my x41 running Windows XP pro/3.

I think I've figured out which java installation to get from Sun's website mess (JRE and VM (for Virtual Machine) are keywords) but on my computer java is listed as "IBM java", presumably different from Microsoft java and Sun java.

There may be confusion over a browser plug-in, a VM, and other things called java.

I don't find much on Lenovo's website.

Can anyone illuminate this dark roast cup of coffee?

Thanks....Keith

From distant memory, I had this problem some years ago. The advice was to delete any IBM Java reference and then do a Java update. It worked a treat.

Apparently there was a conflict with Java and IBM Java.

I hope this helps.

"IBM Java" came with the Factory Install on my T42. I kept it for a long time, but eventually got rid of it. Removing "IBM Java" did not cause me any problems at all. I am now using the latest version of Java from SUN's website.
