Windows XP Pro Question

#1 Post by Me2 » Thu May 27, 2010 11:42 pm

I have an r61e running win xp pro service pack 3. I recently restored it to the factory state. Today by accident it got unplugged without the battery in it. I plugged it back in and turned it on. Isn't windows xp supposed to do some sort of hard disk check or something if the computer is shut down incorrectly? It didn't do a check or anything just the normal startup then when I was logged on after maybe 2 minutes I got the blue screen. It didn't give me time to write anything down and it restarted. Should I be concerned?

It does not necessarily run a chkdisk after a bad shutdown so i wouldn't worry there...
As far as the blue screen ..if it keeps happening I would run thinkpad PC doctor diagnostics

If all the diagnostics pass just back up your data and re install XP..probably a software issue...

Also try disabling the automatic restart on error so that you can record the Stop error code listed on the blue screen. The Stop error code may give an indication where the problem is.

To disable auto restart:

Go to Start -> Control Panel -> System
Go to the Advanced Tab
Under the Startup and Recovery section, click Settings
Under System Failure heading, un-check Automatically restart
