Problem with XP SP3 and wireless card

#1 Post by phil917k » Tue Jun 15, 2010 3:23 pm

I'm using a Thinkpad T42 with an Intel PRO/Wireless 2915ABG wireless card. I have tried upgrading my Windows XP installation to SP3 but always with the same result. When I restart, the wireless fails to find any networks. Following advice on the T4x forum, I updated the wireless card driver to the most up to date version according to

If I use System Restore to return to before the SP3 update everything is fine again - I can see mine and all the neighbouring wireless networks, no problem. It seems like its not an issue with the wireless card driver, so is there anything else that I can investigate?

There is a suggestion in this thread to install a down level Intel driver while in SP2 then upgrading to SP3...worth a shot. Uninstall the Lenovo driver first.

I had the same problem with T4x series and the wireless card. I finally upgraded to Win 7 and the problem stopped.

It seems that some cards work and others do not with SP3...don't waste your time as it seems the problem does not go away with XP.

An easier solution would be to get e.g. an Atheros- or Ralink-chip based wifi card.
And/or apply the NO-1802 hack.
