P50 on dock: Monitor not recognized after sleep, no USB wake

#1 Post by Mop5076 » Sat Dec 03, 2022 2:58 am

Hi guys,

I've been searching for a solution for the last couple of days – to no avail. Maybe one of you can help?
The issues:

First: My new P50 sits on a 40A5 workstation dock and doesn't recognize my external monitor after sleep. Currently using Pop!_OS w/ hybrid graphics enabled.
I've switched to integrated only, and NVIDIA only but nothing helps. Doesn't matter if I set mirror, extend or single display, the monitor connected to the dock is not working when resuming from sleep. While testing, I noticed that the notebook's display will also stay black sometimes (depending on the settings). I've also tried connecting via DP, same result. Currently, the cable is plugged into the ThinkPad directly, which is not what I bought the dock for. No issues, though.

Second: Support.lenovo.com states that waking via USB is not supposed to work with the 40A5 dock. It doesn't work for me. I suppose there's nothing I can do about that?

I'm really disappointed, have used the 40A2 dock and a USB-C dock in the past, and everything worked wonderfully. I wanted an upgrade but got quite the downgrade in terms of convenience.

Any ideas? I'd really appreciate your help.

I had a similar issue with my P1G5 and a TB3 WS Dock Gen2. I solved it by disabling "Fast Startup" under more options of the "change what closing the lid does" menu in Control Panel's power options.
P1 Gen 5
P52
T25 Anniversary

Many more as well!
