Mandrakelinux 10.0 on T40p

#1 Post by GreenLight » Thu May 27, 2004 11:11 am

Last night I installed MDK 10.0 on my (soon to be returned) T40p.
I did this just to find out how well it works. When my T42 arrives, I am going to try going Microsoft-free on it :D

The installation went smoothly, with no hiccups or strange results at all.
The OS seems to be running perfectly. I am using KDE as the desktop.
I put the machine to sleep (by closing the lid), and this morning it woke up just fine. The only anomaly was that I had mounted some SMB shares from my Windows 2000 server, and when the T40p woke up this morning, there was an error trying to read from the share. I immediately tried again, and it worked, though.

I tried opening several of my Microsoft Office documents (.doc and .xls files) with OpenOffice, and they were all read fine. The only issue there is the fonts used in the documents were not available on MDK. I am looking for a way to migrate my fonts onto Linux.

I did not try any WiFi; when the T42 arrives, it will have the Intel 2200 b/g card in it, so I will see what kind of support MDK will have for it.

Overall, the experience has been very good, so far.
