Mavericks 10.9 on a T61(p)
Re: Mavericks 10.9 on a T61(p)
Hi everyone.
I installed Yosemite on my thinkpad T61 this weekend, using the chameleon installer from Chris1111.
http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/ ... eon-r2437/
It was able to boot using the DSDT (Madara-san) and some of the Kexts from the mavericks install.
Everything works as it should, with the exceptions of the battery meter, and sleep/wake. Similar to the 10.9.2 situation. There are also few other minor issues, but otherwise it is quite stable. I only just did it yesterday, so perhaps some of these issues can be ironed out.
What works:
Processor with speedstep
GPU, display, QE
Audio
Wifi, Ethernet
trackpad.
Basically everything works fine, except what I list below...
What is problematic:
Power management (the Battery Meter shows 0% battery charge, however the laptop itself functions normally when using Power Adapter or Battery).
Sleep/Wake sometimes works, sometimes doesn't.
Only will boot with "-f -v" flags (so startup takes a while).
I'll upload my "extra/" folder if anyone wants it.
Peace.

Re: Mavericks 10.9 on a T61(p)
Hi Bugmn,
This is what I did to get sound working...
In Chameleon Wizard, check the box "kext-dev-mode=1"
(or add the flag kext-dev-mode=1)
Put the VoodooHDA kext in System/Library/Extensions/
Remove AppleHDA from there
(then you won't need AppleHDADisabler kext either)
Rebuild all your kext caches.
Your version of voodooHDA (2.8.2) should work, but I used version 2.8.4. Try that if nothing else works.
All versions are available here:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/voodooh ... rce=navbar
Please let me know how that works out. Thanks for uploading your kexts, I'll be uploading my kexts later on after I do more experimenting to figure out why I need those flags and you don't.

Re: Mavericks 10.9 on a T61(p)
Hi JaavrOS,
I've tried with new kext and "kext-dev-mode=1" boot flags but audio doesn't work, also speedstep doesn't work, for me is a kext problem i don't use Mandara San kext I tried a lot of another...
A this moment I've this problem with my extra:
- audio
- speed step
- sleep ( it works, but if i shutdown the pc after sleep I see a CMOS error o.O )
- fingerprint ( i love it, if it works...)
When you are in a good situation I would be grateful if you upload your files extras!

Re: Mavericks 10.9 on a T61(p)
Hi bugmn,
Here is my extra folder:
http://dropcanvas.com/sro5h
NOTE: here is an updated one:
http://dropcanvas.com/0aa20
I hope you have success with it. It should boot for you (hopefully). I also included some other utilities.
I just now was able to boot with your extra folder (I had to turn off FileNVRAM module. I'm curious how you booted with it enabled.) What method do you use to rebuild your kext cache? I use Kext Wizard.
Good news... I have battery meter. Thank you!!! Also, I still have sound (my voodooHDA kext is intalled in S/L/E)
I do not have speedstep with your extra folder. Same as you reported.
Now I just need to find how to combine our 2 extra folders to get everything working together.
Some comments about my extra folder:
I removed some un-needed kexts from my extra. Such as the wifiinjector. Wifi should work without it.
My FakeSMC is the latest one from Koslek, and I keep all the plugins loose in the extra folder (you will see them). I have the fakesmc and the smbios "tuned".
I noticed you have NullCPUPowerManagement kext. That usually stops speedstep, you can remove it as I did. You should also turn on "P & C States" to get speedstep.
You should be able to turn off GraphicsEnabler.
Did you move VoodooHDA into S/L/E/ folder? I found that VoodooHDA did not work when installed in Extra/Extensions/.
I had installed Rehabman's ACPIBatteryManager (version 1.53). But it didn't work. That is what is in my kit. I noticed that you have version 1.52. Will expriment to see if that is what fixed my battery.
Sorry, I never use fingerprint reader (or internal bluetooth either). So I can't advise you on that.
Thanks again.
Peace.
JaavrOS.
EDIT:
So far, I put your DSDT in my EXTRA folder. That has everything working (battery meter, speedstep, etc).
I'm tweeking the boot.plist to try to fix other things. Will upload another kit if I fix anything.
What is still not working is:
Sleep (it wakes, but he moon icons stays on).
Still need -f flag to boot.
Still need to disable FileNVRAM module to boot.

The latest is r2456, you can download form this link one folder called i386, when you launch chamaleon wizard select from the top of the windows "Manually folder" (or similar) and select i386 folder previously downloaded.
In new chamaleon where is S/L/E folder? i found only extra, modules and extension folder.
Re: Mavericks 10.9 on a T61(p)
@ manuelthink:
S/L/E/ is abbreviation for System/Library/Extensions/
(From the root of your hard drive, navigate to System>Library>Extensions. Put the VoodooHDA kext in there.)
I found that VoodooHDA did not work when installed in Extra/Extensions folder. (abbreviated as E/E.)
Also, either remove AppleHDA from S/L/E, or install the AppleHDADisabler kext.
Thanks for the link to the updated Chameleon. I was using r2437 that is installed with "OS X Yosemite Chameleon" installer. I installed the newer one (but still seem to have all the same issues as before).
@ bugmn:
What utility do you use to rebuild the kext cache? I'm using Kext Wizard. Wondering if the issues I'm seeing is because of that?
These are the issues that remain on my system (mostly minor issues):
Sleep icon (moon) staying on after sleep. (It does sleep and wake, but there seems to be some issues after wake).
Need to boot with -f -v flags and with FileNVRAM module disabled.
Display Preference Pane does not remember brightness slider, needs to be set to full after each boot (just a very small annoyance).
The GPU stops changing speed after a certain time. Usually it gets stuck at fastest speed, which is fine because there is no lag. But sometimes it gets stuck on slower speed which is problematic.
Here is my latest Extra folder:
http://dropcanvas.com/0aa20
It has the DSDT (from bugmn). And AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext, but not sure it makes a difference. Plus, some other tweeks.
Please let us know of more improvements you know of. Thanks. Peace

Re: Mavericks 10.9 on a T61(p)
Very thanks for the voodoohda in S/L/E it works!
I've updated to chamaleon 2456 without any problems.
JaavrOS I've tried to replace my E/E with yours and boot doesn't work, maybe you have some kext that's not good?
For regenerate cache i use KextUtily
But... in your boot.plist where is the string for use DSDT? I don't see it.
If you try with all my extra folder doen't work? It's very strange
This is my updated extra folder!
http://dropcanvas.com/0j876
UPDATE: http://dropcanvas.com/0f3pz
Ps. the major problem is speedstep does not work
Remove from E/E Nullcpupowermanagement and speedstep work!
Sleep -> works, but after reboot or shutdown "cmos checksum bad error", I'm looking for a fix
GPU -> as you say the GPU stops changing speed after a certain time

The kext "Patched_10.7_AppleRTC.kext" will fix the cmos error. It's in my Extra/Extensions.bugmn wrote: Sleep -> works, but after reboot or shutdown "cmos checksum bad error", I'm looking for a fix
[edit] I just noticed you have that kext in your Extra/Extensions folder. You shouldn't be having the cmos error. hmmmm.
Try using my boot.plist. There are some flags you have that I found problematic (darkwake=0 was causing problems for me).
Also, I think you have multiple trackpad kexts (VoodooPS2Controller.kext, ThinkpadUltraNav.kext, AppleACPIPS2Nub.kext). You only need one, probably the VoodooPS2Controller is best.
I don't think you need a link to DSDT in boot.plist. Chameleon will find DSDT.aml, if it's in Extra/. That flag is if you want to use a DSDT with a different name, as I understand it.
Now I'm guessing that the reason we can't use eachother's Extra folders might be because we are using different kext utilities. Can you try using my Extra folder, then running Kext Wizard? (I had sent it with my kit. Click all the buttons under the "maintenance" tab).
I will try with Kext Utility to see if it makes any difference here.
Or, you might have different kexts than me in your S/L/E folder, that is interfering with boot. For my setup, I'm using the original AppleACPIPlatform.kext that Yosemitie installed into S/L/E, not the legacy kext that is in your Extra folder. Please check to see if you have the original AppleACPIPlatform.kext (version 3.1) in your S/L/E. You should, but if not, I can send you mine.
Also, after I made this boot with chameleon, I installed Clover to see if it fixed some problems. It wouldn't boot, so I reinstalled chameleon. It's possible that Clover installed something that is changing my system. When I get a chance, I plan to do a fresh install of Yosemite with this finalized Extra folder.
JaavrOS
By the way... I just swapped the palmrest on my 14" T61 widescreen with a palmrest from a T400. It has a bigger trackpad. Seems to work better too. It fits pretty well, feels secure, just one of the screw posts is shorter than on T61.

Re: Mavericks 10.9 on a T61(p)
I've tried to remove from my E/E AppleACPIPlatform.kext and pc doen't boot after rigenerate kext, it's very very strange, in S/L/E there is the same kext version 3.1 !
Have you tried with all my extra folder and regenerating with kext utility and doesn't works?
I don't think it's a problem of clover bootloader, you can try with kext wizard to update all the boot with latest version
Alsi with Patched_10.7_AppleRTC.kext cmos error shows

Yosemite on a T61(p)???
Hi folks.
From what I read, you are putting Yosemite on your T61(p) machines.
I applaud this, and I'm hopeful about the outcome. I will probably run it on mine, as I am running Mavericks now. I'm grateful for your efforts, and that you publish them here for others to read.
But perhaps you should be taking this into it's own thread, titled "Yosemite on a T61(p)". That way others who are interested can find the thread, read it, possibly contribute.
If you do decide to open this new thread, can you please mention in a post here that you have, and provide a link in that post?
Cheers,
Bret

If you do decide to open this new thread, can you please mention in a post here that you have, and provide a link in that post?
Cheers,
Bret

Can someone repost the FSB fixed bootloader? Unfortunately, chameleon wizard over-writed mine, and I didn't have a backup... plus the old link is not working anymore

Yeah it worked well on my T61p with Mavericks (I don't need Yosemite) and I had no audio problems. But now it was overwritten by Chameleon Wizard so I need that boot file again...

Great to know that. Thanks. I'll give it another try if it gets re-posted.Madara-san wrote:Yeah it worked well on my T61p with Mavericks (I don't need Yosemite) and I had no audio problems. But now it was overwritten by Chameleon Wizard so I need that boot file again...
I use high end USB audio interfaces for multi-track recording on my thinkpads. Those had static and stuttering problems with the bootloader that fixed the FSB issue. In addition to the same problems in the built-in audio.
But I will certainly test it again and let you know the results.
I'd very much like to know, have you tested your system with any USB audio interfaces, Madara-san? Thanks.

Re: Mavericks 10.9 on a T61(p)
Thanks, got it. Today I decided to run the 10.9.5 update, (because SMB is soooo broken sometimes on 10.9.1). So, I would like to disable sleep, tried this command:
But this didn't disabled the lid sleep. When I close the lid, screen goes blank and computer freezes. Tried IsomniaX app, still the same. Someone have the idea to prevent freezing when closing the lid?
Code: Select all
sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.PowerManagement SystemPowerSettings -dict SleepDisabled -bool YES

Re: Mavericks 10.9 on a T61(p)
Hi guys, I'm new here on the forums and I'm trying setup my T61 as hackintosh. I do not know anyone with a mac computer
so I don't know what to do for the image. I tried Niresh .dmg file for maverick but it froze at language selection. I tried
OS X 10.8.5 and it seems to be installing correctly but when I try to boot it afterward I guess the message on picture then blinking _ .
pic : http://imgur.com/u4Q7KDH
Any clues on what is going on?
Specs : T61 7661 T7300 intel CPU with intel graphics, 4GB ram, 60GB SSD
Also I'm trying to learn how everything works, the patches people write..how to change bootloader, see source code, etc. Is there a tutorial/guide for that? What tools to use too...I open up iso and I just don't know what I'm looking to do..

With Intel graphics, you should try 10.7.5 Lion. That's the latest official version to support GMA x3100

Re: Mavericks 10.9 on a T61(p)
I tried Lion 10.7.2 from niresh, it is a .iso and I can't seem to boot it at all..I don't get to the bootloader. With 10.8.5 I could get to where I select the settings and do the installation at least. It was a .dmg though.
I guess I really need to find a mac to try the myhack way of installing OS X with the .app . Since I don't know anyone with a mac I could try to install it in a VM. Is it hard to install into a VM?

Re: Mavericks 10.9 on a T61(p)
Hi Cynical Cat,
You still might be able to boot 10.8.5 with X3100 graphics, even though the graphics aren't supported. You won't get accelerated graphics and might not have correct resolution, won't use full graphics memory, etc. In other words, the graphics will be crappy and slow. But maybe you can get it to boot for long enough to create a nice installer for 10.7?
Right after you do the initial install, you will not be able to boot directly off the hard drive. What you need to do is boot off the installer disk, then select your hard drive from the list to boot. Did you try that already?
Just to let you know, laptops are difficult to hackintosh. If this is your first try, you might have an easier time with a desktop computer. Especially if you build it yourself with a gigabyte (or Asus) motherboard and a Nvidia graphics card.
Good luck!

Re: Mavericks 10.9 on a T61(p)
My first post here,
a big HELLO from Athens, Greece! I discovered the thinkpad hackintosh forum and decided to install Mavericks on my old R61. I have no hackintosh experience, but have some linux experience.
What I did was creating a MyHack install stick, adjusting the BIOS settings and installing Mavericks with the madara-san extra folder (big thanks to you, madara-san). The installation stuck with a usb error I don't remember, so I had to install with the -x flag, otherwise everything worked as expected.
Right now, I am writing this post on my R61. However, I have some issues and thought asking for your help before experimenting with things I do not understand completely.
1. I have no trackpad or buttons (using a wireless hp mouse at the moment). This is most probably due to different hardware - the R61 has ALPS and the T61 a Synaptics trackpad AFAIK. I checked syslog and the navpad drivers are loaded. Maybe I should unload them and load the correct drivers. OS X is using kernel extensions, which I do not know how to install or remove with the MyHack application.
2. Sleep works with Fn-F4 and closing lid. But the system does not resume. The screen remains black, the sleep icon stays on but there seems to be some background activity. I was thinking to start deactivating devices in the BIOS settings but if somebody has a better idea ...
3. Facetime and Photo Booth are not working, although the camera IS working (I confirmed this by adding a picture to the user settings). I did not even try to activate iMessage, I know it's not working oob without tweaking.
4. I have still 10.9. Should I update to 10.9.1 (the last version working with sleep/wake on my platform AFAIK) or resolve my issues before updating? I also don't know if it was a good idea to use the t61p DSDT.
That's all for the moment. Many thanks to everyone who contributed to this ThinkPad hackintosh project!

I hope you found it in the meantime I used this package from Madara-San and it works perfectly! Thank you!
Previously I used a kext bundle I found online from ProtocolX, found on this website. It worked, except for sleep and I found the animations (like minimizing windows etc) a bit choppy. With Madara-San's kext bundle Sleep works, and the animations are smooth
I am very happy with my HackBook Pro
