[T430s] hibernare / suspend drain battery

#1 Post by whqdz » Thu Mar 29, 2018 6:09 am

Hello,

I've just switched from a linux 18.2 kde to a 18.3 mate on my T430s and i'm facing to a problem: when I put the t430s on hibernate (or suspend), it drains battery.

I took a look at the energy settings and it's already well set up. When I close the laptop or when I click on hibernate/suspend, the "sleep" icon on the top of the computer is green lighting.

I also took a look on tlp settings but I didn't find something that is related to sleep/hibernation.

On my previous system (mint sonya kde) I got no problem for it, it was working fine!

Any idea about this issue? If it's a missing driver or just a bad set up?

Thank you!

If the "sleep" (moon) icon is lit, it means that the laptop is in suspend (S3), not hibernation (S4), and battery drain is expected.

Win10 hibernates just fine and he's on Linux anyways.

I run Kubuntu 16.04 on my T430s. Hibernate wasn't enabled by default but after I enabled it, it worked fine for months until one day I decided to upgrade the kernel for some reason, after which the system had trouble resuming from hibernate. I came across this page, which suggested that upgrading the kernel could indeed be the cause, so I installed and booted into the latest stable/generic kernel, got rid of the new one, and hibernate started working again.

My big mistake, the problem is finally solved, I was confuse between hibernate and suspend, and the system didn't enabled suspend/hibernate : when the laptop was close, it was still on. That explains why the batteries were empty after few hours. Now I can turn on suspend mode without carrying about batteries, it's all good :)

By the way thanks for the info, I feel shame of this huge mistake!
