Installed a new T420 with Windows 7 Enterprise and loaded drivers from Lenovo support site

One Unknown device remains in Device Manager

Hope someone knows what device driver this refers to

It was the Power Management Driver (not Power Manager) and using Lenovo System Update for Windows 7/x64 solved it

Can anyone share what 'Lenovo System Update' is? I am having a Devil of a time installing this driver.
Is it a utility program? I am trying to install it into T440P - Win7 64bit.

Lenovo System Update is exactly as the name implies. It's a utility program that looks at your system, compare it to the latest Lenovo's database of software and update those utilities for you. Check to make sure that all the required support software for System Update is installed. Back in the day it used to work OK but maybe Lenovo no longer support the older models like they used to. Lenovo is a far cry from what IBM used to be. Mind you the place of laptops in everyday computing is not what it used to be either.

I couldn't agree more with your comparison between IBM & Lenovo.
Could you tell me where to find this software package? I didn't see anything (or missed it) on their DL page for the the T440P.
What is it called exactly? Perhaps I could locate it elsewhere?
I've never needed to use any Lenovo utility software on my T61's except the Power Manager for use with batteries.

When I had the 32bit (x86) Win7 install, every single driver installed perfectly. After upgrading to 64bit abouit 1/3 of driver packages gave me trouble.
Especially the Intel video drivers, where I confirmed I was not alone, not by a long shot! So many ended up using Intel's drivers.
I tried FIVE Intel video packages until the last one finally worked. Sheeesh. And now, after all that, this is the only driver left.
One person even asked why I'm bothering installing it since it's such a problem.
I just don't feel right leaving it as 'Unknown...' I've never done that in decades of computer work.

Could it be the 'Lenovo Migration Assistant' ? That's the only thing I could find that is close in the DL area.

While I'm not 'migrating' a system (I'm installing this one from scratch) I did read this:

Or could it be the 'Lenovo Active Protection System' that would help me get that driver installed?

I had previously thought that Think Vantage software was only available for Win10 but I found the above for Win7.

I plan to update bios first and then go from there.

It's easy, just copy the driver id and search for it in google, which is ACPI\LEN0068, but so that you don't break your head, I'll search for it for you.

Out of the 40 odd solutions I have tried -on google- including those from Lenovo / HP / Treexy and various Drivers sites, only this works,
WIndows 11 & 10 64bits on various machines including T series, X1 carbons / Yogas all gens.
Thank you for the link, the annoying lone yellow-marked driver has gone.....
