external storage for Thinkpad x61s
external storage for Thinkpad x61s
Hello,
I am using x61s as my mobile computer with small SSD hdd.
I have to buy few external disks in my offices in different locations.
I would like to ask you how you connect external storages to x61 where is small connections possibility.
Because -
usb 2.0 is slow and CPU slowing down
firewire 400 - lightly slower than usb
1gb ethernet - needs to have NAS or SAN network because this is not fast also.
Maybe any cards plugged into PCMCIA? There is no expresscard in x6.. family?
I would like to talk about good transfers on your Thinkpads without esata .

Re: external storage for Thinkpad x61s
It may be more useful to look into "Cloud Storage".
That way you'd always have the same data available in every office (or wherever you have internet access)!

How about duplicating your current hard disk as many times as you have offices, leave one HDD in each office, and swap out the laptop's hard disk for the office's hard disk (don't forget to swap back, when you leave!).
That would give you the fastest access.

Hmm... You might want to check whether the money spent on several external disks can buy you one big SSD.
Apart from swapping the main hard drive, the fastest data access on a X61s is probably either via Ultrabay HDD in an X6 Ultrabase, or an eSATA external drive with a eSATA CardBus card.
