Thinkpad W510 ventilates too much Windows 8
Thinkpad W510 ventilates too much Windows 8
Hi guys,
I've been searching for a solution to my problem on the forum and all over the web and it seems that no one has encountered the same problem yet.
So I was wondering if anyone here could help me.
I've got a Thinkpad W510 TouchScreen with a fresh Windows 8 pro installed on it.
Everything's working great except for one thing : the fan.
I've been updating all the drivers, I cleaned the dust inside the computer etc.. the fan ventilates too much.
When I was using windows 7 on my laptop, the fan was ventilating a lot when I was using programs such as CATIA V5 or AUTOCad. But now, it's all the time and I can't find a way to fix it.
Here's my configuration :
Thinkpad W510
I7 720QM processor
8GB RAM DDR3
HDD ST9500420AS
Windows 8 pro
I suspect that the Metro interface is maybe the cause?
Thanks for your help!
Alex

Re: Thinkpad W510 ventilates too much Windows 8
I think the post would be better in the windows 8 section.
Is there a moderator that could change that please?
Thanks!

Re: Thinkpad W510 ventilates too much Windows 8
Hi Andreas,
So maybe it's coming from the hardware if your fan is also running a lot?! But the W510 has a pretty nice hardware so it should be able to run windows 8 perfectly!
If anybody has any idea of what to do, don't hesitate to post!
Yep, the touchscreen is really nice too
! Too bad it reacts at only 2 fingers...!

Re: Thinkpad W510 ventilates too much Windows 8
In the version of W8 I just installed, "Enterprise evaluation copy", there was an error in the the "balanced" power plan.QWERTY Andreas wrote:I have a W510 too, with windows 8. The fan runs alot too. I cant compare to the value of windows 7 since i have always runned windows 8 on it.
1. Access Control Panel-->All Control Panel Items-->Power Options-->Balanced.
2. Click "Change plan settings"
3. Select "Change advanced power settings"
4. Click the "+" of "Processor power management"
5. Click the "+" of "Minimum processor state"
6. Set to 5%
7. Click "Apply."
8. Click "OK"
In a few minutes, after the system has cooled a little, the fan will not ventilate so much.

Why is my P1 Gen 7 so much better on battery? Cool, quiet, fast — but not on AC.
