WTB: Device That Can Stream Netflix to my TV

#1 Post by hunterman223 » Fri Nov 09, 2012 12:51 am

I'm looking for a device that can be used to stream netflix, whether it be a beat up/old laptop, small desktop pc, nettop, motherboard in a box :P , media streamer, etc. Cheaper than $40 shipped.

If it's a computer:

-Does not need a screen, just the base (laptop) or the tower (desktop)
-must do VGA out
-must be in good working order
-does not need to be in good shape, it will sit in a cupboard
-somewhat modern CPU capable of streaming netflix reliably

If it's a streamer:

-VGA out or composite (RCA)
-support for netflix

A PM or a reply to this thread will be fine.

Thanks in advance, let's see some good replies! 8)

Roku, something to consider at $49.99 new or less via eBay or Craigslist, see this link --> http://shop.roku.com/

Plus there are many DVD and/or Bluray players that offer wired and/or wireless connectivity to home networks and Netflix streaming. Via deal sites, these start under $40 for refurbished models.

Thanks underclocker.

I had checked into the roku, I remember that I would need the more expensive model with support for composite video. However I can get a refurbished Sony media streamer for $40 more or less that I may end up with.

I'm still going to leave this up; might turn into an interesting project (headless server?) if someone has some spare parts laying around.

Just FYI, the Wii, XBox 360, and PS3 all offer Netflix streaming.

Yep, I know a lot of people do it that way but I'm not a huge gamer.
