Middleton BIOS Flash

#1 Post by Wobbly » Tue Dec 18, 2012 7:50 pm

I've followed the instructions for flashing the Middleton BIOS using alternative method 4 here:
http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/BIOS_Upgr ... _method.22

My hang up is that the image files have names like "BIOS update"
In DOS the file name is shown with a tilde. Would renaming the files to eliminate the spaces cause any problems?

Thanks

OK, using the tilde worked. Next problem: instructions say to use "command.com".
That returns a "Bad command or file name".

You have to type in the full: command.com and then hit Enter.

When the flash drive is viewed in windows, there's a msdos.sys and command.com.

When I do a directory command using command prompt those files aren't visible and "command.com" returns a bad command reply.

Redo your flashdrive with ALL files in the same (root-)directory.

Open both "BIOS update" and "BIOS update+CTRL-FN swap" and copy all these files to the root?
BTW, MSDOS.sys is only 9 bytes. Is that correct?

The instructions say either "BIOS update" or "BIOS update+CTRL-FN swap", not both! (make 2 CDs/flash drives if you want)
You copied stuff into a subdirectory, which caused the problem.

Thanks for your help. Some files in the HPUSBF folder are not being written to the flash drive by HPUSBFW.EXE.
Only MSDOS.SYS , COMMAND.COM, and IO.SYS are written, while ANSI.SYS, CHOICE.COM,
EMM386.EXE, HIMEM.SYS, MSCDEX.EXE, OAKCDROM.SYS, and RAMDRIVE.SYS are not written.

Putting all the files on the flash drive in the root directory did not help the "bad command" when
command.com is executed.

Flash drive now has

COMMAND.COM
MSDOS.SYS
IO.SYS

and a folder 7nuj22uc

with the folder BOOT
this has BOOTABLE_1.44M.img

and some EXE. and .BAT files, and another COMMAND.COM
and some .PAT files

Should all these files be in the root directory?
