I'm trying to install this msata HD with the ide adapter but all these screws seems really difficult to turn.
What is the proper sized screwdriver?

Most (modern) ThinkPad screws are PH1, with an occasional PH0.

Re: What kind of screwdriver works best for opening the x40?
I would prefer a magnetized precision set, but so far that's been hard to find at an affordable price, so I use a second full size magnetized screwdriver to pull the screws out of the sockets after they are loose. I know I could flip the machine over, and dump them out, but I end up loosing one or more every time I try that.

Get a magnetizer/demagnetizer like this: http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/WESTWA ... 26235941:s
Works like a charm on any screwdriver, or whatever you put in there.
Got mine in my local hardware store for about $3.-

Hey, good idea there RBS! I think I have such a unit around here somewhere. Not the same one in your link, but still....I'll have to find the thing and try it out. Doh!

Any strong magnet will magnetize any steel that it is in contact with. In the past I've used HDD magnets, speaker magnets and lately the magnet from a pick up tool available at any tool store or automotive shop.
