Hi all
I recently started having this issue: "Windows Desktop Manager has stopped working" popup window turns up out of the blue, for no apparent reason. The funny thing is, Windows Aero is perfectly fine, it's just the message popup which appears to be random with no effect whatsoever on my Windows 7 Pro x64.
I thought it might be the fact I am using 2 monitors all the time (I have a VGA connected to my ultrabase at work) and I use my USB-powered LT1421 at home, but even on standalone, I still get the message. I have looked all over on the net and no solution including "sfc /scannow" seems to have had a positive effect.
Recently I decided to uninstall a couple of Windows updates which coincided with the time (beginning of March) at which I started having the popup (KB2670838 and KB2791765). This has reduced the frequency of the message to a random once or twice in a 4 hr period as opposed to virtually every half an hour previously - so not sure if that had anything to do with it. Around the same time in March, I upgraded my VMWare Player to the latest version 5.02, as well as Corel PaintShop Pro x5, but I cannot uninstall them as I need them both.
Anybody else has come across this? Like I said, although it has no practical bearing on my actual Windows sessions, it is bloody annoying and it is driving me nuts!
Thx for your feedback, even if it is just moral support!

Re: Windows Desktop Manager issues
Thx for your response.
In the meantime I have been able to resolve my DWM issues by rolling back to Lenovo's recommended HD3000 driver ver 9.17.10.2843 and updating my LT1421 ThinkVision driver to R7.0M1. Any HD3000 driver newer than that e.g. 9.17.10.2875/2932/3062 will more often than not give rise to this DWM error message once the DisplayLink software is installed. Now I have no issues on standalone or with a second display (VGA or DisplayPort or LT1421).
If anybody else has the same issues, I hope my solution works for them too.
