Swapping operation across different Thinkpads, possible?

#1 Post by Cola » Mon Jun 10, 2013 4:50 am

Hi all

This is what I have:

#1 - T43p 14'' with good SXGA+ screen, 160GB HDD, P M 770, 2GB ram, V3200M
#2 - T43p 15'' with UXGA IPS screen, mobo doesn't work.
#3 - T60 14'' with SXGA+ screen (nasty marks on it), 60GB HDD, T2400, 4GB ram, Intel graphics
#4 - T61 14'' wide with WXGA+ screen (nasty marks on it), no HDD, T7300, 3GB ram, Nvidia NVS140M which is starting to bug out on the internal display.

So what I want to know if possible:

#A - Motherboard swap from #1 to #2. Making it a fully working T43p 15'' with UXGA IPS display
#B - Screen swap from #1 T43p 14'' with good SXGA+ screen, to #3 T60 with bad SXGA+ screen, so the T60 will have a good SXGA+ screen again
#C - Taking #4 T61 T7300 CPU and putting it into #3 T60, upgrading from its previous T2400 CPU. Yes I know about the FSB stuff, and that it'll only run 1.67GHz, but Core 2 Duo > Core Duo any day, right?

So is all of this possible, and should I just go for it, or is there anything I need to be aware of? :)

Thanks in advance
Best regards, Frederik.

#A will work
#B might work. Try and see if LCD works. If not, it needs an EDID chip and flashing
#C will not work AFAIK. T60/T2400 has socket M, the T61/T7300 has socket P.
They may LOOK identical, but they are not.
Several T60 machines were offered for sale on eBay etc. with a T7300, but they were probably spelling mistakes.
But you can try it and then report back here!

Thanks for replying.

According to Intel, they should match physically.

"Sockets supported: PBGA479, PPGA478"

T2400: http://ark.intel.com/products/27235/Int ... 67-MHz-FSB
"Sockets supported: PBGA479, PPGA478"

Nope.

Socket P CPU will not work in a socket M board, don't even bother trying.
