IBM is encouraging its employees to use Firefox, aiding the open-source Web browser's quest to chip away at Microsoft's Internet Explorer.
Firefox is already used by about 10 percent of IBM's staff, or about 30,000 people. Starting Friday, IBM workers can download the browser from internal servers and get support from the company's help desk staff.
IBM officially supports Firefox

Warning: Hyperactivist at keyboard
Finally, FINALLY some good news for those of us who, for whatever reason, need to buy our computers instead of building them.
This really made my day. As nice as my desktops are, they feel tainted when I think about how the workers (Dell) and statistically average customers (Compaq) are treated.
Can you either post or PM me with any suggestions on how I can find out more about IBMs business practices? I know it doesn't matter much since I always buy used, but it matters a little. I am also curious about non-intel processors, but ignorant about Athlon and aware that it's hard to find a distro that works well with AMD.
I probably have plenty of time to educate myself before the alternatives hit the used market for people in my income tax bracket, but I do appreciate all the help anyone feels like giving me.

I don't really agree that this is a good thing.
Firefox may have some nice features but I think the web as a whole would benefit from a complete browser monopoly (speaking as someone who has done web design in a past)
Different Browsers that all support different standards and features lessens the web experience for all as sites will either have to be simplied or non accessable to certain browsers.
I was happy that IE was getting to about 97% penetration before firefox came along and I will be waiting for IE7 before changing a browser.
If only everyone didn't hate microsoft unecessarily - just my 2c

Snife, that's why they need to standardize everything for everyone, not have power hungry browser designers making specialized feature sets.
I don't personally feel Firefox is wise for a lot of corporate use yet because of its memory leak problems, but it is certainly more safe to use than IE.
