T440x (any of them) - Mobile Broadband Upgradable

#1 Post by pianoprodigy » Fri Nov 08, 2013 7:20 am

I want to order a new T440, likely a T440s. Anyone know what the deal is with a Mobile Broadband card? Is it available now? Will it work?
T42 2373-3XU - $1840 - She served me well for almost 5 years
T400 on order as of 11/18/09 - $1400 (including Intel SSD) - P8700, 4GB RAM, 80GB X25G2 SSD (I upgraded), 3470 256MB
T420s - loaded, still in use as secondary machine
T440p - loaded, primary

Hello,

Lenovo lists 2 WWAN cards for the T440s:

Ericsson N5321 NGFF
marketing P/N: 0C52883, Service P/N (FRU): 04W3823
http://support.lenovo.com/de_DE/downloa ... D=PD026761

Sierra Gobi5000 LTE/EVDO/HSPA+ 42Mbps NGFF Card,
marketing P/N: 0C52902, Service P/N: 04W3801
http://support.lenovo.com/de_DE/product ... D=PD028519
This might be locked to Verizon.

They also sell:
ThinkPad GOBI 5000 Mobile Broadband – AT&T
marketing P/N: 0C52886
http://support.lenovo.com/de_DE/product ... D=PD028518
but i can't find any information whether it will work with the T440s.

The GOBI 5000 cards are available in the Lenovo U.S. webshop:

The Ericsson card might be available through this page, but i don't know whether they sell to end-users or only to dealers:

EDIT: The Option Compatibility Matrix lists the GOBI 5000 AT&T card as being incompatible as well as compatible:
