Brasillian Credit Card crooks use ThinkPad ATM to steal CC

#1 Post by hoax32 » Wed Dec 18, 2013 10:59 pm

I haven't been around for a while now due to college and work but I still look by. :)
T500 is doing great.

Anyways I just watched a video of how brasillians chip ATM's to steal your Credit Card info - in the video you can clearly see a thinkPad motherboard:

Oh my gawd, wow. Pretty convoluted, wacky way to steal credit card information if you ask me. They essentially made a bogus ATM out of another ATM shell, with a T60 planar and screen flipped back to back and... just crazy duct taped together. These guys are pretty insane.

It's like... you know ads and trojanware on the web? That's like a real-life, hardware/physical equivalent.
Trying my hardest to collect Thinkpads, but college and being broke kinda gets in the way. However...

I saw one time on the Discovery or Hostory channels I think how people figured out how to flash a flashlight into the coin slot of a slot machine and get it to pay out. You wonder how people come up with this stuff.

It is wrong, but it seems to be a lot smoother of a method than tearing apart a Thinkpad T60 and duct taping the bits together in an ATM shell. It just seems like a lot of work... no doubt it's kinda cool though.
