x1 carbon 2gen and image ghosting
x1 carbon 2gen and image ghosting
do you have this issue?
http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-Th ... -p/1562382
I have, but barely noticeable during normal usage (but I can trigger it displaying a chessboard image for some time.
Reading the thread I included I'm not the only one but I'd like to know if some of you here have this issue.
thanks
This is unacceptable for a so much expensive piece of hw to me, what do you think?

Can't believe I'm the only one here who owns an x1c 2014... Could you please try this link if you have the same laptop?

Please help
Re: x1 carbon 2gen and image ghosting
Some light ghosting is to be considered normal for IPS screens. My T440s with FHD LG IPS has some too - the AUO FHD screen has it as well.
As long as it isn´t extreme (like in the case of some early-built X240 with FHD IPS), Lenovo considers this normal.

Re: x1 carbon 2gen and image ghosting
My macbook pro retina does not have any ghosting, it's a panel by Samsung. I consider the level of ghosting I have unacceptable. I checked two more x1c 2014 owned by friends and they have the same severe ghosting I have. Is there a panel without ghosting on this model? I'd like to know...

Re: x1 carbon 2gen and image ghosting
Samsung doesn´t make IPS panels. They make PLS displays, which isn´t exactly the same as IPS.
Apple builds the MBP 15 with Samsung or LG panels - LG is the original creator of IPS, and if you have a MBP with an LG screen, you will have some ghosting as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KdhIA8-UIRQ
The 2560x1440 panel in the X1 Carbon is made by LG - there are no other displays with this resolution in the X1 Carbon.
As I mentioned before, Lenovo considers a light amount of ghosting normal, it is normal. As long as it disappears quickly, ghosting doesn´t matter. http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/product ... =Solutions This also applies to the X1 Carbon IPS screen.

Re: x1 carbon 2gen and image ghosting
This issue is so normal that lenovo fixed the panel in the yoga model... Will post a picture of the ghosting I have... And I heard that the LG panels have been fixed on the macpro... Could you confirm that anyone has it?

Yes, they fixed it with the Yoga. But this was an abnormal amount of Ghosting.

Re: x1 carbon 2gen and image ghosting
My experience so far, is that all LG IPS laptop panels, without exception, since the first generation that hit the X220 series 3+ years ago, suffer from this issue to some extent.
Some units experience it so mildly that it is almost unnoticeable in normal conditions, unless you really explicitly look for it, and even then it may not always be visible.
With others it's as bad as your Dropbox picture shows.
Newer revisions of the same panel, on average, seem to be doing slightly better. For example, the SLB3 HD IPS which was used on X230 and late X220 is, on average, less prone to this effect than the SLB1 panel on early X220. This is also why you saw less complaints about X230 ghosting vs X220 ghosting.
However, it is only statistically correct - it means nothing about what one may experience with a specific unit.
If the machine is in warranty, in most cases, Lenovo will exchange the screen if you complain. The new screen may or may not be better. It is likely that you can continue exchanging screens until you get one that is usable enough, even if it's not 100% perfect.

Re: x1 carbon 2gen and image ghosting
Well, have a look to the pictures I included. Don't consider this a normal, expected, behaviour...
