X140e Hard Drive Replacement Thickness?

#1 Post by mikey pizano » Thu Jan 15, 2015 11:24 am

I am going to be getting an x140e from a friend, which needs a hard drive. Online it says 7MM but the laptop is so thick I was wondering if anyone has used a 9.5MM drive instead.

I have the X131e from the same 'family'.
And I just tried it but 9.5mm drives do NOT fit.

So I am guessing there is no way to modify it to fit?

Figures that be my luck! Maybe I will just use an SSD then...

Make sure the SSD is a "low profile" or a 7mm.

I wanted to use an older (but still in 3 year warranty, so not "that" old) SSD. It was the thicker kind. I ended up taking the chance, voiding the warranty, and removing the casing. Constructed a casing for it that was under 7mm. The insides on most of these SSD drives will fit the lower profile. They sell the identical model of SSD that I have in a "low profile" model as well -- go figure.
