t440s cracked lid-due to hinge pressure

Hi,

Just wanted to share. The lid of my 1 1/2 year old t440s is cracking on both sides near the hinges. The plastic can not handle the pressure of opening and closing the tight lid. Never dropped or misused the computer. Put in a warranty claim (have the 3 year depot) and will have the box on Monday. I heard that they try to claim normal usage, so I may have to fight them.

Anybody else have this?

I am only showing the left side, but I also have a crack on the right.

Welcome to the forum!

I wish that you were joining under a different set of circumstances...

While the issue at hand is not all that common from what I'm to understand, that doesn't mean that you haven't been served a lemon in the first place.

Lenovo will do their best to claim it's user neglect/damage but you have to fight them back. Whether you'll win is a whole another matter.

Please keep us posted on any progress - or lack thereof - regarding this story.

Out of curiosity...Does this lid have an inner magnesium casting?

Thanks for the reply. Been a member for awhile, but lost my login information. Even the guy who took the ticket said, we need to determine if it is normal usage, so yes I am in for a fight. I will document it every step of the way and let you know. I am very disappointed, I have owned Thinkpads for 12 years, always getting the 3 year depot. Never had an issue. Always sent the box back and repair was fixed, no questions asked.

T440s' was advertised as having a carbon-fiber reinforced plastic lid. Thus it is supposed to last longer; not to be cracked as in your situation. Your situation is a clearly manufacturing defect...

Box going out tomorrow with the following letter:

Dear Lenovo,

T440s' were advertised as having a carbon-fiber reinforced plastic lid. Thus it is supposed to last longer; not to be cracked as in my situation. My situation is a clearly manufacturing defect..

I request that you replace the broken lid and check if the hinges are too tight. My 3 year depot warranty should cover this repair.

As a longtime Lenovo customer, advocate and fan, i hope that you choose to resolve this issue fairly. The status of this claim is being tracked on the website forum.thinkpads.com, I hope to report a positive experience to the Lenovo user community.

Hi, Laptop back and its perfect. New lid and hinges. Wow they where fast. I mailed Wednesday, they received on Thursdays, send back out Thursday night and package was dropped off at my house by UPS at 10am Friday.
