Hello,

Up for grabs is...

UK Model T22
Pentium IIIm 900MHz
256MB RAM
14.1" XGA Screen
DVD Drive
20GB Hard Disk
Power adapter
Battery (power level not guaranteed)
Windows 2000 (for test purposes)
Debian/Knoppix installed (Dual boot system)
Open Office.org 1.1.2 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and Frontpage alike office suite, compatible with MS Office, both on Windows 2000 and Debian Linux)
Floppy Drive also included

Basic T22 specs:

Savage IX8+ 8MB Graphics, USB 1.1, Parallel, Serial, Video out, SVHS Output, 2 x Cardbus, Audio In/Mic In/Headphones, 10/100 Ethernet, V92 56K modem, PS/2 Keyboard/Mouse port.

Excellent condition which I worked on to clean up and also set up Windows/Debian. This is a UK model with UK keyboard.

Make me a reasonable offer.

Vicky

T22 vs T23... So close, but...

#2 Post by DeAnna » Sun Jun 20, 2004 3:43 pm

Victoria, that is so close to what I'm looking for.

But after following this forum a while, I have my heart set on a T23. lol

Know where I could find a good one? I'd like to pay less than $1,000, including IBM warranty time left and whatever I'd need to upgrade it like you did yours, as described in your "T23 bites back"...

Is that possible?

Ebay makes me nervous... but I'm still checking the offerings...

There are some good ones to be found on eBay. I presume you are in the USA.

However from IBM's certified used equipment is...

http://www-132.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/store ... logId=-840

T23. Basic outline, (2648-PU1)

- 1GHz PIIIm
- 512MB (good amount!)
- 20gb hard disk
- 14.1" XGA TFT
- DVD
- Floppy
- Modem
- Ethernet
- 2 x USB 1.1
- Usual T2x series ports (as per T22)
- Windows 98
- 16meg S3 Savage IXC Gfx

It's a remanufactured product verified by IBM, 3 months cover, upgradeable to 12 months.

$835.00 till 30/6/2004

Certainly you can get better for the money, but if the peace of mind is what you want, perhaps IBM's certified used products is the way to go, they have them in stock too.

By contrast on eBay for similar money you can get:

- T23
- 512meg
- 60gb hard disk
- 14.1" SXGA+ screen
- wireless via pcmcia card
- dvd/cdrw drive
- floppy
- windows 2000/XP
- modem
- ethernet
- 2 x usb 1.1
- usual t2x series ports
- battery

for about the same as this one from IBM. If you do use eBay my tips are:

check feedback profile thoroughly including looking for sellers who have recent activity in the past months rather than a user who registered 2 years ago and only has feedback from 2 years ago.

NEVER buy from a seller with a zero feedback on a purchase like this.

See if you can speak to them on the phone before bidding or second best - email them.

See what kind of items that have sold before.

See if you can also get the serial number for the unit too, they may not do this as they may think you are stealing the serial number for IBM warranty support, but see if they will, and definitely ask for the machine number in this case it will start:
2647 or 2648 (for T20, 21, 22 and 23) followed by 3 further digits.

Check the machine type: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... country=us

Check serial number for warranty lookup and general machine look up here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... arranty.vm

Also be aware of numerous neutral and negative feedback.

Hope this is a start!

Send an email to Bruce: scosgt at worldnet.att.net and tell him I sent you.

He has brand new T23s for sale, as well as used, just tell him what you're looking for and what you're looking to spend.

You might find something similar for less from others, but I guarantee that anything Bruce sells you will be exactly as he describes it.

Thank you both!

Sheesh, I should have checked here sooner - I went and started a whole new thread  http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?p=8319#8319

Victoria, that is excellent advice. I was just asking on the other thread about how to be sure that when a seller says there is warranty time left, that it will actually transfer.

JHEM, I'll e-mail Bruce right now! Thank you so much.

You're both right - it is worth paying more for the confidence. : )
