X41 Tablet powers on, but nothing on screen
X41 Tablet powers on, but nothing on screen
So I recently picked up an X41t for next to nothing only to find out that it will turn on, the fan will spin and the power LED turns on, and that's pretty much it. (Caps/Numlock, power, battery, and sleep LEDs blink once first) When plugged in and turned off, the battery LED is orange indicating charging. Finally, the lid latch was broken off. Might that have something to do with it? Plugging it into a monitor doesn't seem to do anything either. No POST, no BIOS, nothing. Just power LED and fan, and the occasional hard drive click. Any ideas?

Remove the battery, then try to boot into BIOS (press F1 immediately after you hit the power button).
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

Nothing. Still just power LED, fan, and occasional hard drive clicks.RealBlackStuff wrote:Remove the battery, then try to boot into BIOS (press F1 immediately after you hit the power button).

If you remove hard disk, main battery, wifi card and RAM, then plug in only the charger and press the power button, does it beep 1-3-3-1?
If not, you may have a dud...

No luck. Should I remove the modem, too?
Re: X41 Tablet powers on, but nothing on screen
Just tried, along with the modem taken out. No beeping. I've also noticed that what I thought were superficial scratches on the display may be cracks on the LCD beneath the digitizer. Even if the LCD is shot, it should beep, right?RealBlackStuff wrote:If you remove hard disk, main battery, wifi card and RAM, then plug in only the charger and press the power button, does it beep 1-3-3-1?

With all that stuff removed, and it still does not beep, there's only one solution: round-bin it.
Re: X41 Tablet powers on, but nothing on screen
Ouch.
At least it was only $15. I'll likely gut it and try to use the chassis as the base for a Frankenpad with a single board computer. (Intel NUC, Raspberry Pi, etc.) At the very least the digtizer can be salvaged. Now I have to figure out if the LCD is actually cracked, and if so, what to replace it with. (Will one of those 1400x1050 panels physically fit?)
Edit: When I first got it, I made the mistake of plugging it into a 24V power supply that supplied less than 75W. If I blew a fuse it wouldn't turn on at all, would it?

Possibly more than one fuse...

24V would probably be enough to kill it (normal is 16V; wattage really doesn't enter into it other than limiting the amount of current that might flow into the system for a second or two). Also the MOSFETs (power transistors) may give their own lives in order to protect the fuse(s) from blowing
