Help fix my mouse please

#1 Post by jamerslong » Wed Feb 03, 2016 2:25 pm

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME FIX MY MOUSE!!!!!!

now, nobody is any help in the yoga forum since I posted 2 months ago so here it is again.

Hey all,

I have a Thinkpad where the mouse and track point both go out intermittently, always at the same time. sometimes they come back after minutes, or days. This always requires a sleep or restart cycle however to get them working. The mouse never starts working again while booted (intermittent PS/2?)

I replaced the trackpad, but not the ribbon cable

should I replace the keyboard, or can I replace the trackpoint or ribbon cables?

I am worried this is a bad motherboard. did I get a machine with a bad motherboard?

This is a Lenovo thinkpad Yoga S1 (14") 20DM

I had a similar problem on my T60p. Mouse and trackpoint would freeze up for a random period of time. Sometimes standby would fix it, sometimes restarting would fix it. Always would shutting down, then powering back up fix it.

I recently frankenpadded that T60p, but the problem persisted. As it turned out, the touchpad was causing the problem... I disabled it in BIOS and the problem hasn't come back in well over a month and I use the machine much more than I did before I frankenpadded it.

My guess is since you've already replaced the trackpad - try and disable the trackpoint in BIOS to see if it gets better.

thank you! I finally got some help!

My BIOS does not have the option to turn off internal hardware... I hate Lenovo :( I wish IBM had kept it or sold it to a U.S. Company, but that's another thread.

Yes i replaced the trackpad. when i first installed it the trackpad did not work, but the trackpoint and buttons did. Im afraid my bad luck got me a bad trackpad :( .

I did notice this however.

In the mouse properties on the Thinkpad tab, the trackpoint is enabled but the trackpad is not, and when the mouse stops working the Thinkpad tab crashes and force quits. before I replaced the trackpad both were enabled and when the mouse stopped working both were disabled. I did replace the trackpad with a different version, (newer model with physical trackpoint buttons.) I uninstalled all the mouse drivers and installed the drivers for this mouse (which enables the buttons) but I'm still not entirely sure if this is the right set of drivers :(.

I wish I could replace only the trackpoint.

Have you tried using a Live Linux USB or DVD to see if the issue presents itself in a Linux environment? If the issues disappear in a Linux environment then your problem may be software-related. If the issues show up in a Linux environment then more than likely the issue is hardware. Have you contacted Lenovo directly as well?

would the trackpoint failing cause the trackpad to fail as well?

In my case, the reverse was true... so yes, I'd say a fault with either of the pointing devices could cause the other to behave strangely.
