keyboard letters coming off on T40

#1 Post by acediac » Mon Jun 21, 2004 9:05 am

Hi all,

I've had my T40 2373-92U for a year now, almost daily use, and still love it. Haven't had too many things go wrong except for the battery, which was replaced under warranty by next day courier.

However, some of the letters on my keyboard are coming off. I haven't seen anyone mention this, so maybe it's just me?

Also the PCMCIA / pc card cover on the left is pretty flimsy and has come off before, but the spring on one of the corner tabs doesnt seem to be very securely located, and will pop off pretty easily... and the cover itself doesnt go all the way to the top... anyone have this problem too?

These are pretty minor things in the scheme of things, just thought I'd sound it out, and see if people are having the same problems, and have any solutions.

Don't get me wrong, still love my T40, quality is still better than the Dells and Compaqs that my friends have. When I had to give back the thinkpad that my previous job loaned me to use, I just HAD to buy one for myself :)

Cheers,
Andrew

Still got warrenty? I have a iseries 1200 and a few of the letters were wearing off. The keyboard was replaced for free.

I think at the time I had 1 month left on the warrenty. Better late than never.

I've had my T40 for 13 months and have used it daily. As far as I can tell, none of the keys letters are wearing out :)

However, I have had the PC Card door fall out three times. Finally I got fed up with the spring and taped it to the inside of the door with some scotch tape. Hasn't fallen out since! :P

Keys should be covered under warranty. I had a 600E for 4 years and a couple of keys were wearing off. Popped them off and replaced them from a minimally used 600 that my company was salvaging - looked like new again! The PC card slot cover doesn't go all the way to the top. Looks kinda sloppy, doesn't it.
