IBM Laser Multifunction Printer

#1 Post by Sand » Wed Jun 08, 2005 8:40 pm

I'm still looking for a laser multifunction flatbed printer , and I'm very interested in the IBM, but I'm wondering why I never read about anyone having or extolling the IBM printer, esp. since they love their IBM computers.

I read that it is really a Lexmark, but if IBM put their name on it, wouldn't they make sure that it lived up to their standards, if not just to protect their reputation?

Does anyone have an IBM printer, and do they have either negative/positive experiences ?Would I be any worse off than buying any other name brand?

I must confess that I love the aesthetics of it, the logo and I esp. want only solid black, and the IBM has all that, albeit at 447.00, it is expensive.

I would be grateful for anyone's reasons why they would ~not~ buy the IBM multifuntion printer.

Thanks in advance,
Sand

I have had good experiences with Lexmark laser printers, owned 3 of them. HP gets good reviews but they are far more expensive than Lexmark printers.

I don't know about other owners, but from my experience LExmark has the best bang for the buck.

I bought a special purchase Lexmark 3in1 printer (it was on sale at Target for $49). It works great. The software that comes with it is good too.

IBM Laser Multifunction Printer

#4 Post by Sand » Fri Jun 10, 2005 7:49 am

Continuing in my search, I learned that the IBM 1412 is the same printer E232, as sold by Dell and Lexmark, all made by Lexmark, but put in slightly different looking cases and distributed by Dell and IBM. Also, that last Fall thousands of them were recalled due to a possibility of causing shock and fire, even tho they say there were no incidences.

I've been trying for days to get through to IBM but can't get past recordings and being told the representatives are busy and to leave a message. If this is their support, I don't know if I would want to purchase it.

Also, I found it for a little over a hundred dollars, while IBM is still listing it at lowest price of 427.00.

Can this be the same machine?

Thanks for all your input,

Sandra

If it is in fact rebadged Lexmark E232 don't get it through IBM. Just go to Staples. I got mine for $100 after $80 rebate.
It could easily be badged as IBM since the printer is 90% black. So far I am very happy with the printer.

we have a IBM color laser printer at work (1432 I think) but that thing sure goes through cartiges quickly.... (or that everyone likes to print in color...)and everytime I change one, it's around USD180 for just one color, so one advice.. get HP.. at least you can buy cheaper cartriges..
