Thinkvantage Active Protection

#1 Post by RRHODY » Tue Sep 13, 2016 8:26 am

Curious, is there any reason to have Thinkvantage Active Protection if the unit has SSD?

No.

I'd argue that having that setup is actually likely to be counterproductive.

HP's similar software is smart enough to not work on SSDs,
Lenovo's one should probably behave the same.

I don't believe in "should" when it comes to Lenovo. Ever.

Here is another question: does the active protection still work with a spinner drive in the Ultrabay?

Looks as if there is no reason to keep it, and some valid reason to delete.

I think the answer is not definitive in regards to this, with conflicting opinions and evidence. Many modern spinning hard drives have shock protection which will obviously still work in the Ultra Bay. Arguably making APS not as imperative in an Ultrabay non OS enviroment.

ThinkVantage software was initially required software for older operating systems running on older hardware. Today it is less relevant IMHO on relatively newer systems.

Some previously needed Lenovo software is now bloatware IMHO YMMV.
