What do you guys know about the IBM Color Display 9507? I found a bunch.
What do you guys know about the IBM Color Display 9507? I found a bunch.
I found quite a few "IBM Color Display 9507" LCD monitors. They seem to work pretty well.
The internet tells me they are extremely early (1993 or so) active-matrix LCD monitors for model 95 systems, and that's about ALL it tells me. I can't find one for sale anywhere, or have any idea what the price might be.
I feel like they should be saved but I don't really want to hang on to a dozen old monitors if they're of no value.

Two limitations and they were also early teething with them. One, they are 640x480, two they work best with 16 colors only. As a early designs the LCD is not as stellar as what we are now used to and image steady enough is as not good as much newer ones with VGA input LCDs and they are better ones out there instead and I'm telling the truth. Plus they are only 10.4" view able size.
If you wanted to, really make sure you gather all the pieces, they are all non-standard: need 4 pieces: LCD, stand, external power supply and the cable assembly.
Cheers, thinkpadcollection

Hey keenerb,
It's me TwistedPneumatic from VCFED!
Anyway, those panels are from the 700C and 720C units and SHOULD be capable of 256 colors but definitely not High-Color. I doubt any of the people that had these units originally went any higher than 640x480x16C anyway because they all went with the PS/2"E" computer which was a pizzabox of crap hardware. It was a 25 or 50Mhz 486 so W3.1 was the top for the machine and W3.1 was designed for 16C.

Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.
The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

I wonder if they'd be useful as spares for those laptops. Hate to let potentially useful hardware go to waste...

The problem is there are probably more of those monitors in the wild than laptops in the wild. You could probably use them as a driver for say if you happened to mod a 755C with an RPI or something.
These machines happen to take them: 345C, 365C, 365CD, 370C, 365E, 700C, 701C, 720C, 750C, 755C, 755C, 755CDV, 755CE, 755CV, 755CX, 820, 850
That actually could come in handy if you save a few. I'd like one day to take either a 365ED or 365XD and replace the DSTN/SVGA panel and replace it with a TFT/VGA panel and those should work a treat if this data is right.

I just picked up a PS/2 E. Evidently they were often paired with this monitor to go along with the compact size and energy saving deal. I'd love to get my hands on one of these to complete the system.

Keenerb-- I myself am also interested in one of those displays as I've been hunting one for awhile. They're near unobtanium if someone actually WANTS to own one!!! Hell I'd take a couple....
The PS/2E isn't actually crap hardware, it's a blue lightning! And it can have a co-processor installed with a maximum (of I believe 16 MB) of SIMM memory. Plus with the single ISA slot you can pop in a sound card. You'll find that the PS/2E can outperform many in its class and runs on very low wattage.Thinkpad4by3 wrote: ↑Fri May 04, 2018 6:54 pmAnyway, those panels are from the 700C and 720C units and SHOULD be capable of 256 colors but definitely not High-Color.
