Which was your favorite TP numbering scheme?

Which is your personal favorite, the early ibm 3 digit (Model/Revision/Processor/Screen/Extras), the late IBM 2 digit(Model/Number/Revision), or the Lenovo 3 digit(Model/Screen/Year/0)

I personally like the early IBM one because it shows the most information but I dislike IBM's uncordinated use of it.

The 340 comes AFTER the 350?

Skip from 300 to 350(and JP 330), but 310 comes many years later

360 and 370 are same year but 365 is next year.

Etc...

I can't really decide if I like the IBM XTRA two-digit number scheme better or Lenovo's updated version of that with three digits. I prefer both over IBMs original numbering scheme, which is rather archaic (ironically, Lenovo uses something similar for its newer IdeaPads with IdeaPad 300, 500 and 700 series...).

The main difference between the two-digit and three-digit number scheme is of course that the three digit number-scheme allows you to differentiate the screen size. This has its advantages, as it allows users to better identify the specs of the machine just by looking at the model-name. Of course, this also means that you have many more models than before, which makes it rather harder to have a good overview of the lineup. So both have advantages and disadvantages.

I am very curious though what happens in two years, as the three digit-number scheme for ThinkPads has almost run its course...

Probably exactly what toshiba did in 1997/8, go to 4 digits.

I like IBM's 2 digit naming scheme that Lenovo maintained until T61p. It was very neat and accommodated for minor changes in chipset generation within the same case, for example the T20,T21,T22,T23, T40,T41,T42,T43, and X30,X31,X32 series. If not for its differences of questionable purpose (eg. microphone moving to lid), the T500 could have easily been named T62, and W500 the T62p. The 510, 520, and 530 series are all so similar in case design they should be in the same series. Presumably called T70, T71, T72 and their W counterparts the T70p, T71p, T72p.

I however do like Lenovo's 3 digit version very much, at least in the first models. T500, I think, is just an epic name. I say it "T Five Hundred." Same with X200, X300, T400, W500, W700, SL300, SL400, SL500. They have "hundred" in them. It sounds good. The others I abbreviate, like X201 is "X Two Oh One" and T510 is "T Five Ten" and so forth, so they sound less grand. But still, very good laptops.

Don't forget Lenovo's current naming scheme for the X1, X1 Yoga, P1, 13 (although it is now L3**), and 25. All the X1 Carbons are called X1 Carbon, which is confusing. I am glad that the P series uses two digits. I predict, with the 2020 models, the T and X series will go back to two digits, and that is my preference. T40, X20, X30 will return, we'll see L30, L40, L50, E40, E50 for the first time; and finally we get a T50.

I love the Lenovo number system they came up with starting with the T410/T510 series... I know that system by heart now... I don't consider the T400/T500 as first in the number system due to no core i CPU
