For the life of me, I couldn't get rid of this error.
I'm installing Windows XP and I have one "Unknown Device" error on the device manager.
I think I even know what it is.
The location is "on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller"
And when I install power manager 5.20, nothing happens. I mean, installing power manager should get rid of one "unknown device" but this time, it doesn't.
For whatever reason, the power manager 5.20 on the T43 download page doesn'tseem to properly install power management driver.
(but it seems to work fine. I mean, the battery information and all the other functions seem to work fine)
Does anyone recently installed XP from scratch and encountered this problem?
Any help would be appreciated. I'm thinking if I should try different version of the power manager or something...

Re: T43 Unknown Device :(
I installed XP on my T43 this past summer. This was from recovery disks, not a retail or oem XP disk. There are no unknown devices in device manager but I did do some manual driver updates.
Lenovo's advice on their power manager driver version is not helpful for the T43. The latest XP power manager that worked for me is 1.67.04.05. Get it at the link below.
download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/gtku09ww.exe
Open Device Manager, select System Device and then select Lenovo PM Device if it exists. See what driver version you have now if any. Then install the driver 1.67.04.05 and check again.
The other unusual item to check in System Device is the Winbond Trusted Platform Module 1.1. If you have no such entry it may be your unknown device. Get it at download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/gtku09ww.exe

Re: T43 Unknown Device :(
thank you so much!!! the driver at the link worked and now it's error-free!
I don't know why this link is not included in the T43 driver download page. it should!

Re: T43 Unknown Device :(
Many many versions of Power Manager have been released over the years. Some releases fail to install or fail to function on some Thinkpads. The older the Thinkpad, the more likely there will be issues. For the T43, it is so old that the docs are not maintained or checked for accuracy. Finally Lenovo gave up and there is no Power Manager for Windows 10. Anyway, glad your T43 is running without device problems now.
