Audio issues on think pad r40

The lower end of audio started sounding a bit fuzzy ~2 hours ago. What could cause this? I'm on Peppermint OS if that could be a factor

Y'know, with all the problems you've been having with that R40... don't you think it's time to upgrade to something newer?
