I'm glad you enjoyed it Petra. I read the book before I saw the movie, and I feel the book is much better. Still, I did enjoy the movie though. It's been some years since I've seen it - I may have to see it again!

I noticed that you are from Slovenia. I find it very interesting that this forum has such a wide reach. I've seen posts from a number of different countries.

Kudos to Bill Morrow for providing this very informative and helpful forum.

I didn't realize it was based on a book! Who's the author? I would like to read it very much. Nothing better than reading a good sci-fi book in the garden on a summer afternoon...

Frank Herbert is the author and it's "books" if you want to have the entire story.

frank herbert has written much excellent sci-fi (which i started reading in jr. high school, about 1951!)..

and, FWIW, i recently bought a car from ray bradbury's nephew..

so that quote is from the DUNE series..?

Dune is a series that I think will be difficult if not impossible to fully capture in film. It's far too complex to tackle like Lord of the Rings and so many other books were done. You'd simply end up missing 80% of the story line and meaning.

I need to reread the books, but the best movies I've seen done so far as I recall were the ones made by Sci-Fi a couple years back.

That quote is from the movie "Dune". It didn't actually appear in the book.

Didn't know Dune was a book?!? It's only the single best-selling science fiction novel of all time.

And I rather like the Sci-Fi channels' version, but I haven't read the book in quite a few years.

The book really left me thinking about... moisture... for months. Every time I'd turn on a tap, or smell a humid breeze, I'd be thinking of those souls on Arrakis.

Funny but it looks like the Dune books were never big in my country. Or I would know about them. But I'm ordering all 6 of them.

Ah...... it's great to read, and I really do enjoy reading novels. Up until this last year, I was reading about 3 novels a month. But now due to changes at my job (and spending too much time on the thinkpads.com forum), I have virtually no time left to read a novel. And I do miss a good book!

Originally Science Fiction was my prefered genre. But now, I prefer stories that delve into the interrelationships between people. How they think and react to the people around them. Actually, these types of stories are covered in almost every genre. But not so many authors have the gift to really bring out peoples inner feelings with insight.

I enjoy trying to understand people. But I must admit, that is quite a challenge - especially if you look at how varied peoples opinions are - about everything! Why do people think so differently? Oh well, enough of my philisophical musings. I agree with the others. Dune was a great book. Why else do you think I chose the nom-de-plume of GomJabbar? That name has stuck in my head for years!
