Psudo Tech Question, Server Memory

I have a Dual Xeon Server that Im running 8 8gig stick of EEC memory in. Packaged in 4 pack of two sticks. None of these sticks has the heat sink on them, all are Crucial matched sets.

Is it the work cycle or the physical gig to each stick that raises the temp. It will handle 16 gig sticks for a total of 128 gigs. Im asking because I dont have the heat sinks, and I dont have the plastic fan directors. Have not really pushed it, but have not seen any issues.

I would imagine most of the heat comes from the duty cycle. If you have a larger capacity DIMM and are have applications heavily utilizing 50% of the capacity, it would hypothetically put out less heat than a DIMM of half the capacity used at near 100% capacity in the same work environment.
