P16s Won't POST -- Send In? Warranty?

P16s [censored] the bed recently -- won't POST. The fans just spin endlessly. Took it apart, but looks like everything (CPU/RAM/etc.) is soldered on, so no way to actually diagnose hardware problems. Ordered a M.2 external adapter to get all my data out of the SSD.

I'm assuming my only recourse here is have it sent in. Can anyone advise on the best way to go about this? Warranty is expired, but there are options to re-extend.

You can always take out the SSD and buy a new motherboard.
Might be cheaper.

Good point.

Looks like there are no second-hand 5B21J15994 boards (Ryzen 5 PRO 6650U & Radeon 660M). Lenovo price for a new board is $847.97.

While extending warranty to the best "Premier Support Plus" for 43 months is ~$700. Assuming they'll replace it 30 days after renewing the warranty -- that seems like a better deal on the surface (and would pay off in the future, if it's as good as it's billed).

Do you see anything wrong with that line of thinking?

My employer bought P16s G2 (AMD) for a group of us last December. All of them have been less-than-stellar workplace companions. They routinely lock up when attempting to resume from standby. They also occasionally just sit at a black screen with the fan running for a few minutes when you turn them on (sometimes they will eventually boot; at least once I had to remove the battery before it would start again).

The graphics are unstable as well - windows often blank out to all-white when on video calls (various drivers and updates don't fix the problem). Eventually mine started complaining that it had a 60W AC adapter connected, despite it being 90W. I took it in to a local service center and they replaced the motherboard after it wouldn't POST after a clean shutdown, started singing, went into BIOS recovery, and corrupted the SSD. The replacement motherboard was defective as well - it locked up repeatedly when the service center was trying to set system info in BIOS and they ordered a second replacement motherboard. That one motherboard worked, but it still locks up sometimes after trying to resume from standby, and the GPU glitches as before (clean Windows install).

I was going to try Windows 10 instead of 11 to see if it was any better, but my company wouldn't let me. The P16s crashing so often was infuriating, so I eventually gave it back to my employer and resumed using my T480 FrankenPad.

I can only conclude that must be some serious design flaw or unresolved manufacturing defect with (at least a batch of) these.

Probably if you intend to use this machine for a long time, that's a reasonable line of thinking. You have to double-check that it will cover defects existing at the time of the extension.

It would definitely be cheaper getting the warranty extension at the time of the original purchase. I would always buy at least a 3-year warranty on any laptop purchased new, if that option exists.

I also had issues with my P14s G1 AMD. The battery depleted quickly when suspended. That doesn't happen at all with my X1C9, which has been suspended for the last couple of days and it has used maybe 5% of the battery capacity.

There is obviously something wrong with the power management on AMD systems.
