R40 BAttery

Last month I got a R40 is quite good condition (only missing the HDD caddy) and she's very nice, but the battery doesnt last very long and I was wondering whether it's worth it to recell the battery or just always having the charger, and I was hoping people here would be able to give good insight into it.

Does the R40 cpu run full speed with a dead battery? Or does it clock down like an A31? If it runs full speed with the dead battery I wouldn't get a new battery.
