How to get T42p sleep properly

My T42p recently cannot get into sleep/standby mode automatically when I close the lid. How can I fix the problem?

Also, the computer cannot get out of standby mode properly under win 98. The computer do responds, but the screen cannot show anything, how can I solve the issue? Is there any drivers needed for it?
