I bought a Yoga S1 off eBay. It's got a supervisor BIOS password. In order to access the BIOS I need a password the seller doesn't have. I don't really need to access the BIOS/UEFI but I'd like to. The Hardware Maintenance Manual for the Yoga S1 states:
"If the supervisor password has been forgotten and cannot be made available to the service technician, there is no service procedure to reset the password. The system board must be replaced for a scheduled fee"
Does anyone know of a way to either 1.) wipe the supervisor password or 2.) way to read the current supervisor password?
I have Debian 12 installed on this Yoga S1 and everything works great, even tablet stuff, it's not really worth swapping out the entire system board just to have access to the BIOS but I was curious if anyone knew of an unofficial way around this?
Thanks!

Re: Yoga S1 supervisor password BIOS
Welcome to the Forum.
You're in luck, because the Yoga S1 is from 2013.
If from 2014 or newer, it would have been a lot more complicated!
Download the "Thinkpad Yoga" manual from the HMM-Manuals link above.
I'm not familiar with that model, but you have to access the system board on the side with the fan on it.
Meaning you have to take it almost completely apart.
How to take it apart is also shown here.
Make a drawing and locate/tape all the screws on it while you are working on it.
Once you have access to that system board, find the location mark U11 on this picture.
U11 is top/left of the password chip, which has P24S08 or similar printed on it.
As seen on that picture, these are the pin-numbers of that chip
U11. 5 - 4
...... 6 - 3
...... 7 - 2
...... 8 - 1
For the next action you need pins 5 and 6.
You can remove the SVP using this Youtube made by one of our Forum members.
After which you can assemble it back.
