X230 , it's possible a WiFi 7 upgrade ?

#1 Post by Pikaetas » Tue Sep 09, 2025 9:32 am

Hi there !! Another x230 fanatic with 1vyrain bios mod who wants to upgrade the wifi at max !!

As far as I know, the newest card tested and fully working (wlan+bluet) was the MPE-AXE-3000H aka AX210.

I have tried with something more radical, just for test, a wifi7 Intel BE200HMW half size pci card.

Well, win11 detects and installs the driver as usual but after this I've got error 10.

I also tried with ubuntu latest live and same result, detected (lspci ok) but no icon on the upper tray.

At this point I guess it's just a hardware incompatibility but wanted to share it because I read about people fixing similar issues using tape on some pins of the wlan card (51 or 20 if I remember well)

Any chance or I should move the AX210 ?

Late reply, but I think isn't compatible (newer tech, not fully sure). I have an also 1vyrain'ed W530 with AX210, and works very good. I choose it because Linux support it, and Intel BE200HMW card is not well supported if I remember correctly.
That pin mod is interesting, I will check it.

Pin 20 is the WiFi radio enable/disable pin. IIRC taping it forces it to be enabled.

Pin 51 is the Bluetooth/WWAN enable/disable pin.
