If you take a close look at your first post, the l is missing at the end of the link from .html - that's why I got a page not found error.
Looking at the page you describe, the author is confused why the 25-pin serial loopback tester is included, as he is not aware of any laptops that have a 25-pin serial connector. He doesn't question why the 25-pin parallel port port tester is included (at least that I can see). I was a little confused about the 25-pin serial/parallel tester pictured, until I looked carefully and saw that it is actually two separate testers in one housing. The wires do not pass thru, they loop back to each self same connector.

The folks at Toms Hardware have tended to view themselves as the end all be all in the PC world. They are wrong on many issues but retraction or correction is not part of their vocabulary.
