USB 2 problem on T40p (This device can perform faster)?
Hi
I’ve an IBM T40p and remark today that my usb 2 ports don’t work correctly.
Connecting an ipod or an usb2 key, I get the windows msg “This device can perform faster” (and advice me to connect my device on one of my usb 2 port).
I saw that other t40p owners had the same problem.
What should I do exactly to solve it?
I’m using Windows XP SP2, with the latest update for Microsoft and IBM and the system has been installed using the cd restore. My laptop is about 18 month old (I never used an USB2 device before).
Thanks for your help and comprehension.

I just had the same problem (not a really big problem, because everything still works). I plugged in a 250 gig External HDD and it told me that the USB device was 2.0 compatible and that it was not plugged into a 2.0 port, then it gave me a list of 4 or 5 ports that it could be plugged into... but there's only 2 on the machine!! I thought they were both USB2 as well... Someone help us!
I already read it some of them. But they never was a real feedback: Is the motherboard replacement THE solution?Biker2679 wrote:Search for the problem on these forums. I was having the same problem and since my system was still under warranty, IBM replaced the motherboard and that fixed the problem. Apparently, it is known issue, so you shouldnt have much difficultly getting it replaced.
Yes it is! I had the same problem, and IBM replaced the systemboard. Now it just worksFynch wrote:I already read it some of them. But they never was a real feedback: Is the motherboard replacement THE solution?
Thinkpad T40 2373-19U, winXP pro. Added: 256MB RAM, Samsung 80GB HDD. Switched mini-PCI wlan module intel 2100 802.11b to Intel 2915 ABG, with 1802 hack
Check out the workaround in the last post on this thread.
