Is T30 compatible with external widescreen monitor?

#1 Post by FragrantHead » Tue Jan 10, 2006 9:31 am

I am thinking of buying a Dell widescreen LCD panel for use with my T30. It will have a native resolution of either 1680x1050 or 1920x1200. I have the Mini-Dock and plan to drive the panel via the DVI output. My T30 has an ATI 7500 graphics chip with 16Mb. Running Win2k. Do you know whether it can drive these widescreen panels at their native resolution? I have unchecked the 'Hide modes that this monitor cannot display' tick box in the Windows display adapter settings and listed all the modes. It currently includes 1600x1200 and 2048x1536, but not 1680x1050 nor 1920x1200.

Do you have the latest driver from IBM/Lenovo installed? ATI's Radeon 7500 page indicates the following resolutions are supported:

640x480
800x600
1024x768
1152x864
1280x1024
1600x1200
1920x1080
1920x1200
1920x1440
2048x1536

However, these are for a 64mb AGP card. You might try their OEM driver if your TP driver is already updated.

Unless you have a widescreen hooked up to the Video port, you will not get the widescreen modes displayed. I just tried it on my T41 and at home it will drive the 24" Dell monitor at 1920x1200 but at the office, I just use the thinkpad screen and even if I uncheck the "hide" box, it will not show 1920x1200 as an option. It only shows the standard 4:3 resolutions.

Thank you chan_man. I have meanwhile upgraded to the latest driver, but like yourself I still find that the widescreen modes are not listed.

Has anyone tried the Dell (or other) 1680x1050 monitor? What bothers me is that, unlike 1920x1200, it's not in LtTPfan's list.
