customize the "Blue IBM Access" button!

#1 Post by dorin » Thu Jan 19, 2006 2:03 pm

hi there,

i remember that in summer i seached like a maniac on how to customize the action of the blue button, dont know about you but for me was pretty much useless as long as i didnt use the....what was it doing by default?!

ok, with this tiny program http://www.schlackman.org/programs/thinkpad.html you can decide exactlely what the button should do! from similar actions like power button or to open specific aplications!

i found it very usefull, hope you'll do the same!

Just what I've been looking for! Thanks very much for sharing this!

***EDIT:

I also found this link which shows how to change the blue Access IBM function by changing the registry entry for this button as well:

I have been using it! I like it!

Since I do not have an IBM load, and the blue button is there for decoration...I installed it and use it to lock the TP.

Thanks for the post.

Sweet utility! Since the Access IBM key is pretty big, it's a great candidate for remapping to frequently used functionality.

Aaah, it needs the Hotkey-Software of IBM, so i can't use it with my IBM ultranav-keyboard on a desktop PC :(
But it's great to have it on my thinkpad :)

Maybe it works after installing the keyboard drivers.

As there are a lot of hotkey-functions on the Ultranav Keyboard taht don't work without a special driver I think that the Hotkey Software is included in the driver package of the keyboard.

What if the Access IBM button does not work period? I have a new computer and reinstalled XP and lost the functionality of the access and volume buttons. What drivers am I missing?

Thanks.

You need the Hotkey software and drivers from IBM in addition to the on-screen display software if you want to see the voume bars; regardless, however, the volume buttons wil control the hardware volume as they are hardwired to do so and function correctly in any OS. :)
